The city on the edge of the Adriatic and Ionian

Vlorë is a coastal city in southern Albania, located where the Adriatic Sea meets the Ionian Sea. It is one of the country’s most important cities, known for its beaches, seaside promenade, and rich historical significance. The city played a key role in Albanian history as the place where Albania’s independence was declared in 1912. Visitors can explore historical museums, monuments, and enjoy walks along the Lungomare, the modern coastal area with cafés and restaurants.

Vlorë is also a main starting point for exploring the Albanian Riviera, including nearby beaches, national parks, and coastal villages. With its mix of history, sea, and nature, Vlorë is an attractive destination for both cultural visits and seaside holidays.

Vlorë is one of the most beautiful cities in Albania, where the deep blue of the sea meets mountains and rocky coastal landscapes. Known as the pearl of Albanian tourism, the city lies in southwestern Albania, about 135 km from Tirana, at the meeting point of the Adriatic and Ionian Seas.

In antiquity, Vlorë was known as Aulona and was an important center of Southern Illyria. Its historical importance grew in 1912, when the Independence of Albania was declared here. Today, visitors can explore key landmarks such as the Museum of Independence, Kuzum Baba Hill, Muradie Mosque, Flag Square, and the historic Jewish Street.

Vlorë is surrounded by outstanding natural attractions. The Narta Lagoon, Zvërnec Island and Monastery, Soda Forest, and Triport create a unique natural landscape just outside the city. The Castle of Kanina offers panoramic views over Vlorë Bay and the Shushica Valley.

The city is also the gateway to the Albanian Riviera, starting from Llogara Pass and continuing along the Ionian coast with beautiful bays and beaches. Highlights include the Karaburun Peninsula, Sazan Island, Orikum Archaeological Park, Amantia, and nearby coastal villages and caves. As Albania’s second-largest port city, Vlorë is an important commercial and maritime center.

The region is rich in cultural heritage, including Vlora Polyphonic singing, recognized by UNESCO. With its mix of history, culture, nature, and sea, Vlorë offers year-round tourism and remains an ideal destination for a memorable vacation in Albania.
