The medieval capital of Scanderbeg
Krujë is a historic city located just 32 km from Tirana and close to Tirana International Airport, making it an easy and popular destination to visit. Situated 608 meters above sea level, the city offers stunning panoramic views over the surrounding landscape.

Krujë is closely linked to Albania’s national hero, Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg, who led resistance against the Ottoman Empire in the 15th century. The Skanderbeg Museum, located inside Krujë Castle, tells the story of his life and Albania’s fight for independence. The castle walls date back to the 5th–6th centuries and remain one of the country’s most important historical sites.

Within the castle complex, visitors can also explore the Ethnographic Museum and the Dollma Tekke, which reflect traditional Albanian life and culture. Just outside the castle entrance lies the famous Old Bazaar of Krujë, dating from the time of Skanderbeg, where visitors can find handmade crafts, traditional clothing, silver and copper items, carpets, and local souvenirs.
With its rich history, cultural heritage, and easy access, Krujë is one of Albania’s most important destinations for travelers interested in history and tradition.
